A Weekend in Seoul - Pt. 2

Sunday December 23, 2018 Our first stop Sunday was to Deoksugung Palace, a quick (5 min) taxi ride from the Dragon Hill. We arrived around 10:15 am and found out that the place offers a free English speaking tour at 10:30. We decided to take a quick lap by ourselves first and then check out the tour. It was a pretty chilly day, so our "self-guided tour" basically consisted of us walking from one patch of sunshine to the next haha. A little bit before 10:30 we made our way to the starting point of the tour and found out that we were the only people interested. Score. We were also wanting to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony at 11, and, since we were the only ones on the tour, our guide was more than happy to oblige. She said we'd cut the tour down to 45 min, so we could catch the second half (exactly the same as the first half, but in reverse) of the changing of the guard at 11:15. Win win win. Once that was all settled she took off both walking and talking...

A Weekend in Seoul - Pt. 1

Friday December 21, 2018 John is stationed at the Osan Airforce Base, which is about a 1-1.5 hr drive south of Seoul. Fortunately there is a military shuttle that makes its way between the majority of the bigger US military bases at least once a day, so it was easy for us to get from Osan to Yungsan (an Army base in Seoul). After he finished work on Friday we hopped on this shuttle bus and rolled out to Seoul. It turns out riding the bus is totally the way to go on the Korean roads; they have a lane designated specifically for busses with allowed us bypass pretty much all of the horrible traffic. It was awesome. We were just cruising right along whereas the other 4-6 lanes were practically at a standstill. This bus also dropped us off right in front of the Dragon Hill Lodge (where we were staying for the weekend) located on the Yungsan base. Talk about convenient. That evening was just spent checking in, settling in, and grabbing a bite to eat at one of the Lodge's restaurants...

Kauai - Day 9

Wednesday November 21, 2018 Wednesday was our last day on the island, and we had to check out of the condo by 11 am, so the morning was mostly spent packing up and doing a bit of housekeeping. Once we had the car all loaded we said goodbye to Princeville and the north shore and struck out for the south and Waimea Canyon. We left Princeville around 10 am and entered the canyon around 11:30. Our first stop on the drive was the Red Dirt Waterfall and honestly it was kind of underwhelming. We probably spent 2 minutes there before continuing up the road. We didn't even take a picture haha. The dirt is really red... I'll give it that. Next up was the Waimea Canyon Lookout. This was a nice parking area with a small paved loop giving some goooooood views of the canyon.
