The Peak District

Tuesday June 20, 2017 We woke up at the monastery, packed, grabbed some food, and took a quick walk around the grounds before heading out. I must say, it was a very pretty campus. John was nice and took me on the scenic route through the Peak District on the way to Stannage Edge where we planned to meet up with the Ogles. The route took us from Homfirth across the district to Glossop and then made a nearly 180 turnabout down to Bamford and Heathersage before arriving at the Stannage Edge parking lot. It was quite beautiful and scenic, plus it helped us stay off the busier main highways. Weird thing we noticed about the UK, the smaller and more twisty the roads the higher the speed limit! To the point that it gets ridiculous, I don't know how people are able to go that fast on those roads (or if they even do). We did pull off once and a pretty good overlook, but, unfortunately, it was kind of hazy that morning so the views weren't as good as they normally are I'm sur...

Monday Jun 19, 2017 We woke up, checked out of our hotel, and made our way down the eastern coast saying goodbye to Scotland. The first stop of the day was supposed to be Lindisfarne Castle, but we got to the road just as the tide was coming in and covering it. So close! I imagine that road is pretty old and it's only passable during certain times of the day when the tide is low. Good idea when it comes to making a fortified castle, bummer for us though. Ah well, what can ya do? Bamburgh Castle was our next stop, just 20 minutes down the road (crazy right?). I think the coolest part of the castle may have been the first glimpse when driving up. It was HUGE! We dumb and paid the 2lb (haha) fee to park close before realizing there was a free parking lot just 100 yards or so down the road (*sigh). view of the "back" of the castle, not far from the close parking lot We decided not to tour this one, but walked around the grounds for a bit and enjoyed ...
